The Wilderness Downtown

WILDERNESSCREENSHOT This interactive film by Chris Milk and Google Chrome experiments is incredible.

Made for Arcade Fire’s – We Used to Wait, the film transports you to where you grew up using “choreographed windows, interactive flocking, custom rendered maps, real-time compositing, procedural drawing, 3D canvas rendering…and was built entirely with the latest open web technologies, including HTML5 video, audio, and canvas.” A really lovely integration of story, technology, and that “hey there’s my house” feeling.

Shane MacGowan and Friends ‘I Put A Spell On You’ in aid of Concern Worldwide’s work in Haiti

This is absolutely fantastic! A brilliant cover version of the Screaming Jay Hawkins’ track ‘ I put a spell on you’ performed by some fantastic musicians and for a good cause! Initiated by Shane MacGowan it has Nick Cave, Bobby Gillespie, Mick Jones, Johnny Depp (on guitar), Chrissie Hynde, Paloma Faith (who absolutely rocks on it) Glen Matlock and Eliza Doolittle.

I love the voodoo references. We need more of these creative collaborations for a good cause! Start donating here

Hours of bewildered amusement

Music video director, Marco Sandeman, recently made this viral in response to the comments posted on his video for Paul McCartney’s ‘222′. Marco concedes that McCartney has his detractors as well as his fans, but was enthralled by some sentiments expressed on YouTube. As a result, he harvested some of the most “indecent, peculiar, random and funny” comments he could find and incorporated them into his film. In Marco’s own words, “YouTube is a brilliant platform that, even now, has yet to realise it’s full creative potential. The breadth of it’s audience, the snapshot it provides of humanity in all its ugliness and beauty, the narrative and self-promotional opportunities it offers – it’s unparalleled!”. Marco has also directed music videos for The Kooks, to find out more click here.

Collaborative music

Instruments galore. Why not have a play. This was featured in our recent movie mash-up.

Pedro Marín – El día después en Teletexto

Pedro Marín and Great Works present: The first music video in history for Teletext on Cuatro (Channel 4), Spanish national TV, on page 899 during the whole month of May.

To promote Pedro Marín’s new single “El día después” Great Works developed the Teletext concept to reconnect the artist with his origins. Apart from Teletext the video will also be available on “classic TV” and of course online.

We love pixels!

Space Invaders – the next level

Look at this amazing video for Chairlift. Director Ray Tintori’s visual mind-mashup.

iPhone RjDj application

I spotted this recently whilst reading through my favourite feeds. Take a look at the video as it is quite difficult to explain how it works only using words.

In summary: “RjDj is a music application for the iPhone. It uses sensory input to generate and control the music you are listening to.” [excerpt from the RjDj website]

I just think it’s a concept that has scaleability.

If you download it I’d be interested to hear your comments.
