Working more and more in the app branding space, we have come across the question: Can you design a completely unique UI that is not native to the platform? We have previously blogged about Information Architect’s take on fake 3D in iPad design here, and we tend to agree. The Flipboard app, has a clean custom interface, and only minimal effects. And, perhaps the best example I’ve come across so far is Sr. Mitsu – the UI is completely hand drawn, unique, and does not miss a step in functionality or understanding. To each app their own, but there seems to be an opportunity to push design while maintaining an intuitive user experience.
Speaking of apps…we’ve been working on an identity for an iPad app that should be launching very soon. Stay posted!
