Team MB headed to The Linbury Studio at The Royal Opera House last night to watch Brazilian contemporary dance artist Jean Abreu’s new piece ‘Blood’.
Eagle eyed MB fans, may recognise Abreu’s technical and muscular forms from our recent interactive music video project for Duologue, where he performs dance interpretations of the ‘Machine Stop’ lyrics, while being captured by a Kinect.
The show also featured imagery from ‘The Fundamental Pictures‘, a series of prints from Turner Prize winning artists Gilbert & George (who were also in attendance last night).
Blood was a highly visceral performance, with Abreu exploring the not always picturesque aspects of what it is like to be human. The performance also included many striking interactive and visual elements, as Abreu’s spectacular and athletic movements were often complimented, exaggerated and even engulfed within large scale projections of bodily fluids and kinect mapped translations of human movement. Definitely a show to recommend, but not for anyone of a queasy disposition!
