One of our clients has recently won a major accolade for their news service. So it’s somewhat embarrassing to be sharing the news of their win in a less than timely fashion…..
Many of you will know the Webby Award winners were announced last week. Instagram picked up Breakout of the Year (no surprise). Louis C.K picked up Person of the Year (slightly more surprising) and Pinterest and Google+ picked up their first Webbys (meh).
It was the multi-award-winning Flipboard that took out the News (handheld devices) category. We worked as consultants to the team back in 2010 for the app’s messaging, identity and interface, emphasizing the ‘flip’ gesture as a powerful mnemonic to evoke the brand.
Our friends at Showyou also picked up a well deserved nomination in the incredibly tough ‘Social’ category, unfortunately losing out to Skype.
It seemed a big year for Music. Björk was named Artist of the year for her incredible album / app / project / experience Biophilia. Google Music took out People’s Voice winner in three different categories (Best Visual Design, Corporate Communications and Best Nav categories). Spotify and Pandora were both honored; Spotify took out the best music app, but were beaten in the music website war by Pandora, who took out the People’s Voice award.
