The new D&AD and HP partnership is getting a lot of interest from the UK design blogs – and rightly so. The bootcamp and the internships on offer at the end of the program sound like a brilliant opportunity for new grads to shine. MB can attest to how these initiatives provide the perfect platform for both go-getting grads and agencies – we met a few designers in the MB family at recent New Blood events we have run.
It’s interesting that D&AD are partnering with HP. Although not currently known for their student street-cred, HP are in fact ranked in the top 10 in the Fortune 500, in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands, and in Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies. In a recent BBC article, the HP CEO Leo Apotheker was quoted as saying, “I hope one day people will say ‘this is as cool as HP’, not ‘as cool as Apple’” – so getting young designers on board seems a smart move. And with an increasing focus on telling the HP story, supported by emerging emphasis on the brand and design, and new product offers like the TouchPad close to release, it seems an exciting company for new grads to learn from.
