MB founder going strong in the Dakar

One of the MB founders is currently burning up the South American desert in the Dakar rally. Here’s more info from MB founder Ben:

“Toby – cousin of myself and Guy and one of the founders of Moving Brands – came to us in 2008 and said he wanted to try and achieve his life goal: riding in the Dakar. Incredibly, right now, he’s doing it.

The Dakar is a 14 day endurance race across deserts and mountains – this year it runs from Argentina, through Peru and ending in Chile. To gain entry into the event Toby has competed in 22 events in preparation and is one of only 3 accepted riders from GB – even to be accepted is highly contested, let alone to finish.

The Dakar is one of the most dangerous Motorsport events in the world, and so far 70 of the original 190 motorbikes riders have pulled out and there has already been one fatality. To get this far Toby has studied and qualified as a mechanic, so he can rebuild his bike ground up. He has trained relentlessly physically, monitored and adapted all aspects of his nutrition and been training his mental approach. This is typical of his application – it is unwavering.”

The film shows Toby chatting to Eurosport about getting stuck in sand on the evening of the 8th night. His harrowed expression gives some indication of just how tough the event is!

There are only two more days to go to the finish line. You can follow Toby’s progress on the Dakar site, on his blog, and on twitter.

Good luck Toby!
